I am looking for a reliable machine shop for turning flywheel, balancing flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. The closer to Clarksville, the better.

Thanks,

John

There is one here in Frederick. I used them to cut a keyway in one of my spindles. Don't remember the name, but they are right behind the CAT tractor place. I'll see if I can find the name.

Mancini Machine in Catonsville is a good place to take those parts. He did the machine work for me on the block, crank, and heads and it was a very good job.

Their phone number is 410-747-6464

If I may, a good source to recommend machine shops is a guy I used to work with in the radio biz years ago at the old WRC AM980 , check with Pat Goss - he has a shop in Seabrook,Md. at 9421 Smith Ave. - Pats' a great guy and has excellent contacts around Maryland for most everything!! A very pleasant guy to chat with as well, you can reach him at 301-577-9200. Good luck in your quest! , Jim Lavin

Jim and Mike,

As you know, trusted references for this kind of thing are extremely valuable. Thanks! My work was done late last summer, but I have noted your references for future work.

Although I wasn't present at the last club meeting in March, I understand that Jerry and a couple of others accepted the responsibility to begin screening potential vendors for all of us to use in the future. There are a ton of things I'd be interested in, from machine shops to powder coating to paint.

One could imagine a section on this site that summarizes their findings.

Best,

John

I am on my second engine rebuild with Brinkleys Auto Machine on Penn Ave right off the Washington Beltway. The first was my 1990 L98 Vette motor several years ago. This month it is my number matching 1968 327. John Brinkley takes the time to explain what he is doing and his reccommendations. After the block has been boiled/cleaned, he will measure and tell you what parts you need. He is a big fan of Summit/Jegs discount part houses. You buy the parts on your dime and deliver them to him to be installed. He is also building my neighbors Ram Air 4 Pontiac motor 455 as well. I really appreciate his honesty and integrity, as well as his cleanliness in work. Feel free to email me about any details.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I'll make a list for future reference. In the meantime, I discovered Mancini in Catonsville, the shop that Jerry uses. Good guy, good work.

John,

I agree. He did a lot of work for me and it was very good. As Guy says "no stone unturned" :-)
